Arc Cinema Great Yarmouth

Advanced Roofing Specialists were delighted to be chosen as the sole roofing contractor to work on one of the regions most iconic buildings. Formerly the Royalty and later the Hollywood Cinema the listed building has been a prominent feature on the Great Yarmouth sea front since 1875. It was first used as an aquarium before being used for summer shows, pantomimes and roller skating. It underwent a re-build by local architects Bottle & Olley in 1882 and re-opened in 1883.

Following the rebuild it saw use as a theatre and many famous artistes appeared here including, Lily Langtree, Helen Terry and Oscar Wilde. By 1914 it was screening films as part of the Variety programmes. In the 1920’s it had converted fully into a cinema and was still known as the Royal Aquarium with a seating capacity of 1,500 (http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/17924).

This long history and the new owners insistence on retaining the buildings iconic character meant careful and delicate work both inside and out.

Throughout the project the team worked tirelessly taking care to ensure this unique building was preserved for decades to come. We used FIX-R Classic Liquid 10 a market leading solution to sit over the existing roof whilst providing a durable and seamless waterproof layer with excellent weather and UV resistance.

All of the team at Advanced Roofing Specialists would like to thank the new owners for trusting a local Great Yarmouth based roofing contractor to deliver a weatherproof and long lasting roofing solution for such an iconic building and we wish them all the best in the years ahead.
